The Khao Chan Ngam cliff paintings

Painted in red on a sandstone cliff by an early farming community, the figures show people, animals and scenes of daily life. A short path behind Wat Khao Chan Ngam leads to the cliff.

Go early for soft light and cool air. Dress modestly for the temple.

Khao Yai Thiang and day trips: our guide

Where the name comes from

Chan-Pha, the fragrant tree of the cliffs

The name ChanNgarm comes from Chan-Pha, a fragrant tree that grows wild on steep mountain cliffs. Its flowers give off a cool scent as the rains give way to the cool season. Chan-Pha grows naturally around the resort, along with many other rare trees.

Chan-Pha in bloom

Flowers with a cool scent at the end of the rainy season.

Birds and butterflies

Many species live in the forest around the resort.

White squirrels

Plump white squirrels with bushy tails run freely through the trees, close enough to watch.

Tease the mists, touch the clouds

In the rainy season and as the seasons change, mist and cloud hang low over the hill.
